PESHAWAR: Security plan have been finalised by the district administration for peaceful observance of Muharram according to which police, elite force and Frontier Constabulary would guard processions and imambargahs to avert any untoward incidents.
As per the security plan, special focus would be given on protection of Imambargahs and mourning processions whereas sensitive places and processions routes would be checked through sniffer dogs while medical ambulance and bomb disposal squad would accompany with processions, a spokesman of District Administration told APP on Monday.
The IGP KP have directed District Police Officers to adopt three-layer security filter points before allowing anyone to enter Imambargah and processions.
“Any person wants to enter the processions or Imam bargahs would be searched to avoid any untoward incident during Muharram,” he maintained, adding women policemen would also be deployed for security purpose.
Police would be assisted by Frontier Reserve Police, Frontier Corps, Frontier Constabulary, Elite Forces while army would remain in standby position.
Extraordinary security measures in most sensitive districts of Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu and Dera Ismail Khan would be taken. Peshawar had 65 Imambargahs and total of 122 small and big processions would be taken out on different days of Muharram.
In addition to video recording of mourning processions, he said, Ashura procession would also be monitored through surveillance helicopters in sensitive districts of KP.
The leaders of different religious organisations and representatives of traders have assured their full support to district administration to ensure peace during Muharram, he maintained.
The Municipal Corporation Peshawar has been directed to ensure provision of water, installation of streetlights, cleanliness and removal of encroachments, particularly from the routes of processions.
He said police was fully alert and all the areas would be properly covered to check movement of suspected pedestrians and vehicles, adding police personnel would be deployed at all the entry and exit points to check movement of suspected people while afghans would be restricted to their camps.
In DI Khan, he said, about 2,000 security personnel, including elite force, FC will perform duty. The Muharram processions will be monitored with the help of hidden cameras, adding a police control room has also been set up for Muharram in D I Khan.
Police personnel would also be deployed on rooftops of major buildings and bus stands, adding policemen at plain clothes would make close check on the movement of suspected elements in hotels, inns and other public places.
