RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday arrived at Pakistan Army General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi where the army top brass will brief him over issues related to the national security, media reported.
The premier was accorded guard of honour by smartly turned contingent of Pakistan Army on his arrival at the GHQ where he laid floral wreath on the monument of martyrs alongside outgoing army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
It was his first visit to the military headquarters after 14 years and assuming the office of Prime Minister in June this year.
He was accompanied by federal ministers Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Ishaq Dar.
In GHQ, officials say, the PM will be given an in-depth briefing on issues relating to national security‚ professional matters of Pakistan Army and internal and external challenges facing the country.
Meanwhile the PM held one-on-one meeting with the army chief and reportedly discussed national security matters, government’s anti-terrorism campaign, the situation on Pakistani borders and the Line of Control (LoC).
Sources said the two high-ups also exchanged views over the appointment of new army chief and Pakistan army’s reaction over Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hassan’s remarks over the status of military martyrs
