KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi has said that prominent ulema and other stakeholders have given assurance to play their role to promote inter-faith harmony with a view to maintain tranquility during the holy month of Muharram-ul-haram.
He said this while chairing a meeting of ulema belonging to different schools of thought regarding arrangements of Muharram, said a statement on Friday.
The Commissioner Karachi said the spirit of unity, tolerance and affection manifested by the participants will send a positive message to the whole country.
Among others, Allam Abbas Kumeli, Syed Baqir Raza, Moosa Abidi, Syed Haider Mehndi, Syed Shams-ul-hasan Shamsi, Allama Zehri Abidi, Allama Furqan Haider Abidi, Syed Waqar Hussain Taqvi, Shabbar Zaidi, Syed Shabbar Raza, Chacha Waheed, Ali Akber Kumeli, Maulana Tanveer-ul-haq Thanvi and other prominent ulema attended the meeting.
The prominent ulema also shared their views about the Muharram arrangements and also presented their suggestions in this regard.
They also discussed the problems and other matters related with the civic facilities during Muharram.
They said that ulema of different schools of thought have gathered in a meeting after a long gap and its credit goes to the Commissioner Karachi.
The participants of the meeting also brought attention to the carpeting of service road from Teen Hatti to Sohrab Goth and issues related with water supply and sewerage and other civic facilities.
The ulema urged that load-shedding of electricity be avoided during Muharram 1, to Ashura (Muharram 10).
They said security be also enhanced on the routes of mourning processions and all venues of majalis and the Additional IG Karachi Shahid Hayat be asked to take steps in this regard.
Prominent ulema including Maulana Shah Ferozuddin Rehmani, Muhammad Siddiq Rathore, Muhammad Saleemuddin Shaikh, Pir Mukhtar Siddiqi, Qair Muhammad Iqbal, Maulana Imran Ahmed Saleemi, Yaqoob Attari, Faheem Babar Attari, Muhammad Akber Daras, Ahmed Mustafa Thanvi, Tabashar-ul-haq Thanvi, Additional IG Karachi Shahid Hayat, Deputy Commissioner East Samiuddin Shaikh, DC South Mustafa Jamal Qazi, DC Malir Qazi Jan Muhammad, DC Central Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, officials of the Karachi Electric Supply Company and others were also present.
