QUETTA: The election campaign has taken momentum with the advent of the date for the Local Bodies polls in Balochistan as many as 418 contestants are in the run to fight for the 58 wards in the provincial capital.
With three days remaining in the LB election scheduled for Dec 7, mainstream political parties in the province were using the tribal influence to withdraw the contestants in the favour of their respective parties candidates.
It is worth mentioning that, as many as 418 candidates have canvassing to win the hearts of the people and pave way for their overwhelming victory for the 58 wards of the city.
Interestingly, the party position contesting LB polls reveals that Pakistan People’s Party has fielded only one candidate while Pashtunkhwa Mili Awami Party has lead with 52 candidates fighting LB elections in the provincial capital.
The nomination of the other political parties include Muslim League Nawaz 32, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf 29, Jamiat Ulema Islam 21, Balochistan National Party and National Party 18 each, Jamiat Ulema Islam Nazriati 17 while 29 are independent candidates.
The number of voters in the 23 wards of metropolitan Corporation is as high as 24000 while ward number 57 is prominent because of its 14 candidates contesting the LB.
The day for LB polls is approaching and campaign for the polls is in full swing as leading political parties are keeping eyes on their representation in the grass root level.
