ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator, Pervaiz Rashid Friday termed promotion of inter-faith harmony and tolerance as vital for peaceful co-existence in the society.
Addressing a function organized by Minority Journalists Association Islamabad here, he said that in Pakistan all citizens were equal and no body could be discriminated against due to his or her religious beliefs.
Citing example of the recently launched Prime Minister’s Business Loan scheme,he said that all Pakistani youth irrespective of their religious beliefs were eligible to apply for the loan.
“Religious beliefs are something between God and the man and there is no justification to discriminate someone on religious grounds”,the minister said adding that all civilized nations provided religious freedom to its citizens and Pakistan was a civilized state.
He said that no one was majority here and no one minority on religious grounds,all those who wanted to see Pakistan as a peaceful and prosperous nation were majority,and those who wanted to destablise the country were the minority.
The minister said that those who were spreading hatred in the society were misguided and one day they would realize their mistake as no religion in the world advocated spread of hatred.
PML-N MNA Rubina Khursheed said that media could play key role in fighting extremism in the society. She said that PML-N leadership had always stood by the religious minorities in difficult times.
President Pakistan Federal union of Journalists Afzal Butt said that journalists from minority communities had always worked for promoting religious harmony in the country.
