ISLAMABAD: The gas closure for industrial and CNG sectors in the Punjab may be extended to three months, instead of a two-month period, keeping in view the increasing gas shortages in the system.
This was stated by Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources Abid Saeed in a meeting of the NA Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources held here on Tuesday.
MNA Shahid Afridi said that a mammoth oil theft was being committed from tankers in the OGDCL field in Kohat. He said that officials of the OGDCL were also involved in the huge oil theft. Likewise, huge quantity of oil was being stolen in the Shakardra field every day.
Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on the occasion that this issue would be taken up in the meeting of Council of Common Interest (CCI).
In the meeting of NA committee, the managing director of OGDCL said that his company would provide an additional 350 mmcfd gas, 7,000 barrels per day crude oil, and 870 tonnes of LPG in the next two years. He said that the OGDCL had so far dug 672 wells out of which it managed to get oil and gas from 98 wells.
“The OGDCL has got 33 licenses to explore oil and gas in Balochistan and the KP but on account of poor security, it is not possible to carry out exploration and production activities in the blocs of 10 licenses. Out of these, eight are in Balochistan and two in the KP.”To a question, he said that the OGDCL was at present providing 43,000 barrels of crude oil per day and in 2012-13, it had earned a revenue of Rs223 billion.
