BAJAUR AGENCY: The local administration has finalized its arrangements for the three day anti polio campaign starting from Monday in which about 223,900 children would be administered oral polio vaccine during the drive.
In this connection an inaugural ceremony was held here on Saturday that was chaired by Political Agent Syed Abdul Jabar Shah and attended by senior officials of the administration, health department, representatives of world health organization, tribal elders and social activists.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shah said that administration is struggling to purge the agency of polio infection and all possible means are being used for the early eliminating of polio virus from the region.
He asked the tribal elders and religious scholars to extend their support to the vaccination campaign to make it a success as joint efforts and team sprit are essential for elimination of the menace.
Support of the local community especially of the tribal elders and religious leaders are imperative for eradicating polio from the agency, he said.
Mr. Shah assured the fool proof security arrangements for the polio workers during the campaign, “the security of polio workers and officials are the responsibility of the administration and all possible means will be used for this purpose, he added.
The political agent directed the health department officials and WHO representatives to accelerate their efforts to make the agency polio free.
On the occasion he kicked off the campaign by administering polio drops to a child.
Mean while, agency surgeon Dr Zakir Hussain told journalists during a briefing that 223,900 children would be vaccinated during the drive while 634 teams had set up for the purpose.
