LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday stayed election tribunal proceedings on an election petition filed against PML-N MNA Nawabzada Mazhar Ali.
The bench headed by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the orders on a plea filed by MNA Nawabzada Mazhar Ali challenging election tribunal proceedings on an election petition filed by Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain against him. The court also sought reply from election commission and other respondents by February 20.
Earlier, petitioner’s counsel arguing before the court submitted that respondent Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain approached election tribunal against the petitioner through an election petition.
He said that the petitioner also filed an objection petition with the tribunal for the rejection of election petition for non-compliance of Peoples Representation Act.
However, the tribunal failed to appreciate case facts and dismissed objection petition on January 20, 2014, he added.
He pleaded the court to set aside the election tribunal order and dismiss petition for non-compliance of Peoples’ Representation Act.
The court after hearing the arguments stayed the election tribunal proceedings and sought reply.
