The rupee gained modestly against the dollar in the interbank market on Monday, dealers said. The national currency picked up six-paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.42 and Rs 105.44 respectively.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained its weekend levels in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.75 and Rs 105.85, while it lost 15-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 144.25 and Rs 144.50, respectively, they said.
In the first Asian trade, the dollar edged up to its highest level since late January on expectations that the US Federal Reserve will proceed with its stimulus withdrawal even after downbeat jobs data. The dollar bought 102.40 yen, up slightly on the day, after it rose as high as 102.65 yen. That helped the dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six rivals, gain about 0.1 percent to 80.735, moving away from a one-week low of 80.599 plumbed on Friday.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 62.27, the greenback was at 3.3360 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.059 against the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee remained unchanged on buying side at Rs 105.80 but gained 10-paisa on selling side at Rs 106.40 in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Monday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its last week closing of Rs 105.80 and Rs 106.50 as its buying and selling rate, respectively. The dollar witnessed no change in buying rate and closed at the opening level while its selling rate was declined to Rs 106.40, the dealers said.
However, the rupee-pound sterling parity stayed unchanged amid low trading activity. The pound was traded at its last Saturday closing of Rs 173.50 and Rs 174.00 at buying and selling counter, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 106 for buying and Rs 106.25 for selling against last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 106 for buying and Rs 106.25 for selling.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 173 for buying and Rs 173.50 for selling against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
