KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the officials concerned to take effective measures to save human lives and livestock in drought-hit Tharparkar district.
The Chief Minister, presiding over a meeting regarding relief efforts in Tharparkar district, directed the officials to reach out the affected people and make a medium term strategy to combat drought effects, said a handout issued here on Saturday.
The meeting, among others, was attended by the Secretary Rehabilitation and the Director General PDMA Sindh. The Chief Minister was briefed on the relief and rehabilitation activities in Tharparkar.
It said that besides relief efforts by the Relief Department/SMBR and other relevant administrative departments, the Rehabilitation Department and the PDMA Sindh have actively started rehabilitation activities in the drought affected areas of Tharparkar.
It said that the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) have also started dispatching relief goods containing high-nutrition food items to Tharparkar in coordination with the PDMA. The World Food Program (WFP) has also started Need Assessment study in the area, it added. The meeting was informed about the coordination with NGOs to provide relief to the people.
