KARACHI: The Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has said Arts Council of Karachi would facilitate Classical and Kathak dance master Hasan Jan set the world record of longest duration of performance in the genre he excels in.
Addressing the participants of Kathak Rang program organized by Karachi Arts Council, Wednesday evening, he said the honor to personally witness the art helped him understand the effort and experience of the maestro and other performers pertaining to the field.
“We have to encourage these souls who are selflessly helping promotion of a soft image of the country across the globe,” said the commissioner.
As patron in chief of Karachi Arts Council, he said council is the platform that is meant to help artistes and performers of Karachi in every possible manner.
“Extra efforts, however, ought to be made to create a conducive environment that may enable them attain optimum to their capacities in the fields they pertain to,” said Karachi Commissioner.
Col (retd) Ehteshamuddin, former KMC Director (Admn) on the occasion said Master Hasan Jan despite limited resources at his disposal has single handedly managed to promote Kathak dance among the youngsters of Karachi.
It was recommended that Master may be provided with a space to establish his academy alongwith a regular honorarium by the government.
Senior actor and Chairman, Karachi Arts Council’s Performing Arts Committee, Munawar Hasan said classical dance performed and promoted by Master Hasan Jan is a pleasant change from the ruckus projected as dance at many of the theaters.
Dr. Aaalia Imam (intellectual), Prof. Sahar Ansari (university teacher and poet), Dr. Human Mir, Iqbal Latif and Samina Kamal also paid tribute to the maestro.
