ISLAMABAD: UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown has said that Pakistan has the capacity and determination to achieve the goal of enrolling every child in schools during the next two years.
In an interview with Radio Pakistan, he said that international community stands firmly behind Pakistan in investing in education.
He said Pakistan has to quickly enhance spending on education from the existing two to four percent of its GDP.
Gordon Brown said the global community would provide one billion dollars for promotion of education in Pakistan and a mechanism has been put in place to ensure that the amount is spent judiciously.
He lauded Punjab for pursuing the goal and spending the money in an appropriate manner and hoped that other provinces would follow the suit.
To another question, he said targets in education are achievable by increasing enrolment, proper utilization of buildings, recruitment and training of teachers, and ensuring attendance of teachers and students in schools.
