ISLAMABAD: President Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad on Friday urged the government to reduce electricity and petroleum prices by Rs. 10 each, after depreciation of dollar’s value against Pak rupee, to provide relief to the masses.
Addressing a press conference here at National Press Club he said that about 12 essential commodities were directly impacted by the fluctuations in dollar’s value in domestic market. The effects of strengthening of Pak rupee must be delivered at the grassroots level for the welfare of people, he added.
To a question he said, “If someone desires or demands my resignation from the seat of National Assembly, I am ready to resign and will not wait for the session of the National Assembly.”
But, he demanded the government to inform the nation the purpose of getting US $ 1.5 billion, which had helped strengthen the local currency against US dollar.
He claimed that he was the voice of the poor and it did not matter if he remained in the National Assemly or not.
He said he favoured the government’s dialogue with Taliban.
