Thar, a land of our bright future dreams is suffering from a soul-shattering and man-made tragedy. Its population is merely 1.5 million spread at 22000 square meters area, in a country of huge population of 180 millions. Seventy per cent meat and milk consumed in Sindh is being provided by 5 million livestock of Thar. Animal`s hides provided by Thar`s livestock has a key role in leather industries which earn foreign exchange through export business.
I will not be an exaggerated statement that people living in villages in South Asia love their livestock like their own kids and they call them by beautiful and smart names when they interact with them. It’s a double tragedy that they are losing their kids and livestock, at the same time; in fact both are very dear and precious to them.
It is being observed that our all efforts and thinking both at federal and provincial level are tentative planes. Suspending some Frankenstein monsters and transferring a few others are very superficial measures. We all hope that solid base and long-term and sustainable planning and decisions will be taken to combat man-made losses and unkind natural circumstances.
