The rupee improved versus the dollar on the currency market on Wednesday, dealers said. The rupee posted fresh gains of 90-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 98.20 and Rs 98.25, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, shed five-paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 99.90 and Rs 100.10. It recovered some gains versus the euro, picking up 25-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 139.50 and Rs 139.75, they said.
In the third Asian trade, the dollar stood near its lowest level in more than four months against a basket of currencies on Wednesday, on some trepidation ahead of Janet Yellen’s inaugural policy review as the Federal Reserve’s chief. The dollar, however, climbed against the Chinese yuan, which fell past 6.20 per dollar for the first time since April 2013.
The dollar was at Rs 60.97 against the Indian rupee, the US currency was available at 3.2735 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.1959 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee showed stability and remained unchanged against the US dollar on the local currency markets on Wednesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar was opened on its day earlier closing of Rs 100.50 and Rs 101.50 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar did not witness any change its rate during the day’s trading and was closed at the opening level, the dealers said. However, some of the dealers sold the greenback at Rs 101.75.
On the other hand, the national currency showed weakness against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 167.50 and Rs 169.00 as compared to its Tuesday closing of Rs 167.00 and Rs 168.50, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 100 for buying and Rs 100.10 for selling against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100 for buying and Rs 100.10 for selling.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 165 for buying and Rs 165.50 for selling against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
