The rupee-dollar parity rates moved cautiously on the money market on Thursday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee gained three-paisa against the dollar for buying at Rs 97.95 while it shed five-paisa for selling at Rs 98.05, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee firmly held the overnight level in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 99.90 and Rs 100.10, while it extended its gains versus the euro, picking up 75-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 138.00 and Rs 138.50, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the euro held steady near recent lows versus the dollar after comments from European Central Bank officials revived speculation about new monetary easing to stave off potential deflation. The euro traded at $1.3784, hovering near a low of $1.3749 hit twice in recent days, a break of which will bring the currency to its lowest level since March 6.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 60.15, the US currency was available at 3.2885 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.2130 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee stayed unchanged on buying side at Rs 100.00 while it gained 25-paisa on selling side at Rs 100.25 in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar was commenced trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 100.00 and Rs 100.50 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar witnessed no change on buying counter while it was declined to Rs 100.25 on selling counter, the dealers said.
However, the rupee failed to maintain rising trend and was depreciated against the British pound. The pound’s buying and selling rates were improved to Rs 167.00 and Rs 167.25 compared with last day closing of Rs 166.00 and Rs 167.00, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday. The dollar opened at Rs 100 (buying) and Rs 100.10 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100 (buying) and Rs 100.10 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 165 (buying) and Rs 165.50 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
