ISLAMABAD: Former fast bowler and head coach Waqar Younis feels batsman Sharjeel Khan has a great amount of talent but is being wasted by not giving him a chance in the team.
Waqar Younis said Sharjeel Khan is a great talent and is being wasted. “Shoaib Malik didn’t field well in the T20 match against Australia and his role is not clear to me,” he said while talking to a private news channel.
Waqar said he was impressed by Umar Akmal’s performance against Australia. “We must take full advantage of the way Umar is batting and should look to give him even more confidence,” he said adding Kamran
Akmal played a very calculated knock as he used all his experience and stayed at the crease when he was needed.
While praising bowlers Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal and Zulfiqar Babar, Waqar said Afridi and Ajmal bowled well under pressure when they were hit for runs,” he said adding Babar took two important wickets at the top, so he should be lauded. Waqar said Umar Gul seems to be finding his form as well.
Waqar also gave credit to the Australians for the way they batted. “They were always looking to come hard at us,” he said.
Former Sri Lankan legendary bowler Muttiah Muralitharan said Pakistani spinners bowled too quick against Australian Glenn Maxwell. “Pakistan was panicking in the field, despite scoring 190+ runs,” he said.
Muralitharan said at one point he thought Australia will easily win the match. “Australia made a big blunder by not sending in Brad Hodge earlier who, in my opinion, is a better player than Bailey,” he said adding the result would have been different if Hodge had come instead of Bailey.
