Ahead of sham Indian elections, authorities arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik from his Maisuma residence while senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and Shabbir Ahmad Shah were placed under house arrest.
These leaders were scheduled to lead protest rallies in different areas against the farcical elections, Kashmir Media Service reported.
Yasin Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence who was scheduled to lead a protest rally in Budgam was lodged at Kothi Bagh police station in Srinagar.
Police also detained Hurriyet leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan at their residences in Srinagar while another Hurriyet leader, Mushtaq-ul-Islam was arrested some days back and was lodged at Batamaloo police station.
Pertinently, the veteran leader, Syed Ali Gilani was placed under house arrest on Wednesday after he arrived from New Delhi. Dozens of Hurriyet activists were detained in different police stations, said Aiyaz Akbar, the spokesman of forum patronized by Gilani.
“A large contingent of police reached the residence of Gilani and informed him that he cannot go out”, Akbar added,Condemning the detention of frontline leadership, the spokesmen of all the liberation parties have called it as undemocratic and an act of imperialism.
