KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that from producers to retailers everyone is involved in profiteering.
Addressing a press briefing here at his office on Tuesday, he said that the Assistant Commissioners (ACs) who would challan more profieers would be given appreciation certificates while strict departmental action would be taken against those ACs who failed to give effective performance.
He said that from April, 24,2013 to April, 14, a total of 8632 challans were issued against milk sellers and a fine of Rs.16627300 had been realised.
Official approved price for milk is Rs 70 per litre while dairy owners are selling it at the rate of Rs.84, he said adding that action against milk sellers had been accelearted during the current month.
The Commissioner responding to a query said that if a shopkeeper left his shop to escape checking, his shop would be sealed.
He said that owing to constant actions, the administration had somewhat overcome profiteering.
He said they send the report on profiteering to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Chief Secretary Sindh Sajjad Saleem Hotiana on monthly basis.
Normally, price checking campaign was kicked off in Ramadan but this time it had been started much before the holy month, he added.
Buffalos farms must be registered officially, he stressed.
