The rupee moved both ways against the dollar on the money market on Monday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee continued its weakness in relation to the dollar, losing 16-paisa for buying Rs 98.16 and 18-paisa for selling at Rs 98.18.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, gained 15-paisa in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 99.45 and Rs 99.65 respectively, the said.
The rupee showed no variation versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 137.25 and Rs 137.50, they said. In the first Asian trade, the dollar got off to a quiet start following a few days of directionless trading with investors unlikely to take aggressive positions ahead of major events in the United States and the euro zone.
Policy reviews by the US Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan (BOJ) will also keep the market cautious in a holiday-shortened week for much of Asia. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 60.52, the greenback at 3.2700 in relation to the greenback and the US currency was at 6.2475 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee showed stability and remained unchanged on buying side at Rs 99.40 while it gained 10-paisa on selling side at Rs 99.65 in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Monday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its last week closing of Rs 99.40 and Rs 99.75 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar did not observe any change in its buying rate that was ended at Rs 99.40 while its selling rate was declined to Rs 99.65, the dealers said.
The rupee staged recovery, as it appreciated its worth against the British pound. The pound’s buying and selling rates were ended lower at Rs 166.75 and Rs 167.00 compared with last Saturday closing of Rs 167.00 and Rs 167.25, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 98.50 for buying and Rs 98.60 for selling against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 98.50 for buying and Rs 98.60 for selling.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 165 (buying) and Rs 165.50 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
