LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that government departments should perform the duty of public service with national spirit.
Presiding over a meeting, here on Saturday, which discussed in detail different suggestions regarding improvement of performance of government departments and institutions, he said that performance audit of all government departments was utmost important so that effective system of accountability could be promoted on the basis of performance and provision of best services be ensured to the people.
He said the government departments would have to provide best services to the people in the real sense and for this purpose, government officers and officials would have to play their active and effective role for coming up to the expectations of the people.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that there were several flaws in the present system of ACRs of officers and officials of government departments which had ruined the whole system. He said that there was a need of basic reforms in ACRs system and transforming it in accordance with the performance of officers and officials.
Shahbaz Sharif while constituting a committee for introducing basic reforms in ACRs system directed the committee to present its final recommendations at the earliest.
He said that every officer and official would have to face punishment and get reward on the basis of performance. He said that corruption would have to be rooted out at lower level for improving government system.
The meeting also considered the proposal of merging of 18 different services under a coordinated system to provide facilities to the citizens.
Commissioner Lahore Division Rashid Mehmood Langrial and DG LDA Ahad Cheema gave detailed briefings regarding reforms for improving performance of government departments.
