ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior and Narcotics Control Baleegh ur Rehman on Tuesday said that Government was ready to issue passport and National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) to Altaf Hussain chief of Mutahidda Quomi Movement (MQM).
Responding to a Point of Order raised by Parliamentary Leader of MQM Abdul Rashid Godel in the National Assembly, the minister said the chief of MQM was required to appear personally at NADRA office London for completion of prescribed formalities.
He said the MQM leader had submitted his data for acquiring passport in NADRA on fourth of last month, but due to some fault in the machine the data could not be uploaded. The data is deleted, if it was not uploaded within 30 days.
Altaf Hussain was required to again visit NADRA office for recording his personal information and completion of other process imperative for getting the passport and other documents.
Earlier, MQM Parliamentary Leader in National Assembly Abdul Rashid Godel alleged that Altaf Hussain was being denied his legal right despite completion of required formalities.
Rashid Godel said that Foreign Office spokesperson had also informed that the data had been received and forwarded to the Ministry of Interior for further action. On the contrary Interior Ministry was advising to submit data afresh for issuing the passport and NICOP.
Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada assured MQM of resolving their problems.
Chief of Pakhtunkhaw Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Achakzai said Altaf Hussain should be issued passport as he was bona fide citizen of the country.
Deputy Parliamentary Leader of Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf Shah Mehmood Qureshi said getting passport was legal right of Altaf Hussain.
Sheikh Rohale Asghar said the government had not denied issuing passport/NICOP to Altaf Hussain. However, suitable time is needed for completing legal formalities.
Naveed Qamar said obtaining passport was right of each and every Pakistani citizen and MQM chief must not be denied his legal right.
Sahibzada Tariqullah demanded reasons for delay in issuance of passport to Altaf Hussain.
Makhdoom Javed Hashmi also favoured issuing passport to Altaf Hussain.
Meanwhile, Yousaf Talpur speaking on a point of order said Sindh government had asked federal government to deploy rangers to ensure provision of enough water to tail enders of the province.
