PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has approved the provision of loan to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines limited (SNGPL) under the arrangement Suigas authorities will regularize all illegal gas connections in district Karak and Kohat.
For this purpose all details would be provided to the Department of Energy and Power for onward arrangements. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in the chair.
Besides Federal Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources Abid Saeed, Managing Director SNGPL Arif Hameed, Parliamentary Secretary Planning and Development Mian Khaleeq-ur-Rehman, Chief Secretary KP Amjad Ali Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Khalid Pervez, Secretary Finance Sayed Badshah Bokhari and Secretary Energy Sahibzada Saeed, elected public representatives from southern districts and elite of the area were also present.
The meeting decided that SNGPL under a written agreement with the representatives of the Karak Jirga will have to regularize all domestic connections and in this connection both the company and local administration would be extended full cooperation and no illegal connections will be allowed in future.
The chief minister directed the installation of 4000 new gas meters in district Karak while the management of SNGPL assured speedy arrangements in this regard.
CM Khattak expressed the hope that regularization of illegal connections in district Karak will help prevent the wastage of the precious natural resource and the surplus gas would be utilized in other areas and sectors to meet the energy requirements in the province.
