LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said on Sunday that Punjab budget for fiscal year 2014-15 was people and business-friendly, pro-industry and relief-oriented.
Talking to APP here, the governor said greater focus on sectors of energy, infrastructure, education, health and women and youth development would definitely bring prosperity in the province.
The governor said the balanced-budget would certainly pave way for progress and alleviate poverty in Punjab as the budget 2014-15 was unprecedented because no new tax had been
imposed while allocations for development projects, poverty reduction, education and health would go a long way in giving required boost to the province.
Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said the projects of energy generation through various resources, including hydel, wind, solar, thermal, bio-mass, bio-gas and coal by ensuring huge allocations in this regard would revive the industry and other sector of economy.
He termed it a proof of Shahbaz Sharif-led provincial government’s sagacity to allocate huge funds for energy projects to bridge the power demand and supply gap and it also
showed the government’s seriousness towards giving an end to energy crisis.
The availability of required electricity to the industry would help the country to get optimum benefit form the GSP-Plus (Generalised System of Preferences) status given by
European Union, he said, citing that particularly, the textile industry would be one of the major beneficiaries having an increased volume of exports to Europe under the GSP-Plus
The governor appreciated various initiatives announced in the Punjab Budget to give relief to masses, and huge funds for irrigation, livestock and agriculture sector would help bring green revolution in the province.
He said that allocation of sufficient funds for maintenance of law and order was enough to prove Punjab government was serious in ensuring security to the life and property of the masses. Hefty budgetary allocations for promotion of education at all levels, Danish School
system, provision of missing facilities in schools and colleges, enrolment of out of school children, encouraging the brilliant students, labtop and IT projects for youth and skill development was step in the right direction to put the economy not only back on track but also ensure its speedy revival, he maintained.
Ch.Sarwar lauded the Punjab government for issuing Health Insurance cards for the low-income class, provision of modern and improved health facilities in public sector hospital.
The Governor said that setting aside 36 percent of developmental budget for South Punjab would surely eliminate a sense of deprivation from the people of that area.
The construction of motorways, metro bus and orange line (metro train) projects, he added, were of great importance in provision of maximum relief to the mass in their mobility.
