ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will launch two years face-to-face Master Degree programme in TV production from spring Semester to meet the professional requirement of working journalists and to help further strengthening electronic media.
The decision for launching the programme was formally approved at a meeting held here on Monday under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ali Asghar Chishti.
Necessary arrangements for introducing the programme have been completed.The programme will provide blinded-mode of teaching, both in practical and theory in the field of TV production, meeting members were apprised, said a news release issued here.
It was decided that eminent resource persons of national and international repute would be involved in imparting skill-based training and technical know-how to the students of electronic media.
The AIOU’s faculty team will be headed by chairman Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Dr. Syed Abdul Siraj.
The enrollment for the admission will be started from Spring Semester 2015. Initially 40-students will be enrolled for which entry test will be conducted in line with the Higher Education Commission prescribed criteria.
It will be the Islamabad-based programme. Later, the programme would be extended to other cities in light of the initial feed-back.
The University will provide necessary technical support, including practical training and internship facility. It has already equipped with `state-of-the art’ TV studio.
The internship will be arranged in collaboration with the national level TV Channels. The programme will be offered to the graduate-level students.However, preference will be given to the working journalists and those who have done their Master in Mass Communication.
The AIOU being the public sector university will charge comparatively low fee for the programme, as compared to other Universities.
The programme will also help to meet the needs of fresh graduates, who wish to adopt professional career in TV production.
The qualified students will be in a position to handle any type of visual communication including news, documentaries, dramas, music videos, interviews, talks shows and educational programme.
