ISLAMABAD: Renowned scientist Samar Mubarakmand Saturday said that the Gadani Power project has great importance for the country.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said that two aspects of the project are very significant i.e. electricity generation cost and pollution.
If imported coal will be used than the price of electricity generation will be very high, he added. He said that government should keep both these factors in mind while working on the project.
He said that the Thar coal can meet Pakistan’s power requirements for centuries.
Economic expert, Dr. Asim Allah Bakhash laso said that the Gadani coal-powered project launched by the incumbent government is a step in the right direction.
He said that such projects are aimed at reducing reliance on thermal fuel in the country.
Dr. Asim said that the whole Gadani power project has been initiated with proper home-work.
According to Dr. Asim Bakhash, the electricity produced from local coal is much cheaper than that produced by thermal fuel. Even thermal fuel is costlier than imported coal, said Asim Bakhash.
Responding to a question about sustainability of coal-based power plants, he said that sustainability is not a serious issue in Pakistan. To a question, he said that the best option for power generation is hydel.
