Little movement was seen in the rupee value against the dollar on the currency market on Thursday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee showed no change against the dollar for buying at Rs 98.70 and the national currency gained eight-paisa for selling at Rs 98.72, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: While, the rupee stayed put in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 98.90 and Rs 99.10 respectively, they said. The rupee shed 10-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 134.50 and Rs 134.75, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the dollar traded around one-week lows against a basket of major currencies, coming under pressure after minutes of the Federal Reserve’s June meeting gave no clear indication about the timing of any interest rate rise.
The Australian dollar, meanwhile, slipped after a rise in the country’s jobless rate raised concern about its stalled economy and stoked expectations that interest rates may remain on hold for months to come. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 59.76, the greenback was available at 3.1760 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.2012 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee remained under pressure and depreciated its worth against the major currencies including US dollar and British pound on the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading on a healthy note and kept on rising following fresh demand. At close of trading, the dollar was ended higher at Rs 99.25 and Rs 99.50 on buying and selling side against Rs 98.95 and Rs 99.20 of Wednesday, respectively, the dealers said.
Similarly, the rupee maintained downward slide for another day and was declined against the pound sterling. The pound was traded at Rs 169.25 and Rs 169.50 on buying and selling counter compared with day earlier closing of Rs 169.00 and Rs 169.25, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 98.50 (buying) and Rs 98.60 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 98.50 (buying) and Rs 98.60 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 165 (buying) and Rs 165.50 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
