The rupee retained overnight levels against the dollar on the currency market on Tuesday in the process of trading, dealers said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: These rates were not issued due to bank closing, they added.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained overnight levels versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 99.20 and Rs 99.40, while it lost further 50-paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 135.25 and Rs 135.50, they said.
In the second Asian trade, the dollar wallowed close to seven-week lows against a basket of major currencies, with the greenback pressured by doubts about the strength of the US economic recovery. The Australian dollar, meanwhile, rose after a central bank policy statement was less dovish than some market participants had expected and stopped short of explicitly talking down the currency. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 60.07, the greenback was at 3.2065 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.2016 in terms of the Chinese yuan.
RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained downward slide and shed five-paisa in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 99.20 and Rs 99.45 on buying and selling side, respectively. Because of marginal increase in dollar’s demand, its rate was moved up to Rs 99.50 and Rs 99.50 as its buying and selling rate, respectively, the dealers said.
Similarly, the rupee remained under pressure and was declined against the pound sterling. The pound’s buying and selling rates were improved from overnight closing of Rs 167.65 and Rs 167.90 to Rs 168.75 and Rs 169.00, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
