ISLAMABAD: The transport companies operating from federal capital and Rawalpindi to various cities have arranged additional vehicles to accommodate the passengers on Eid-ul-Fitr.
The managers of various transport companies talking to APP said that owing to the rush of passengers on Eid-ul-Fitr, they arranged additional vehicles to help passengers on Eid.
The bus stands booking managers informed that they were short of vehicles most of the time during the last three or four days of Eid-ul-Fitr, as everybody prefers to reach their hometown and enjoy Eid with their relatives.
“Some transporters have installed additional seats to squeeze in more passengers and they were also forcing them to either keep standing or sit on top of roofs,” said Atif Mehmood, a passengers at Pirvadahi bus stand.
Rab Nawaz, a senior citizen complained that some drivers are creating an artificial shortage of vehicles particularly on Eid ul Fitr to extra charge the passangers.
He claimed that the passengers are compelled to pay more than thrice the amount in a hurry to catch the buses so as to reach homes early.
Another passenger Farhanullah claimed that the transporters park their vehicles away from passengers’ sight, yet close to the bus stands; and the seat booking managers are fleecing the commuters on the name of shortage.
On the other hand, for the first time Rawalpindi Traffic Police has established complaint cells at the bus stands to book transporters found overcharging from passengers.
The Regional Transporter Authority Rawalpindi also formed three mobile teams to keep check on the inter-city transporters during Eid-ul-Fitr.
