CHINA: Doctors have succeeded to remove the world’s largest tumor, weighing 110 kg from a 37 year old man in Beijing, China.
Yang Jianbin was born with a dark birth mark on the right side of his lower back which started growing into a tumor when he reached 9 years of age.
Eventually, it became size of a fist by 12 and he underwent a surgery to get it removed. But it was in vain and it began to grow again rapidly.
Recently just before his surgery in Beijing it became colossal and weighed almost 110kg.
Chief surgeon, Chen Minliang termed Yang’s condition as Neurofibromatosis. “We have seen neurofibromatosis patients before, but this is the biggest nerve tumor we ever saw”, the surgeon said with amazement.
Before his operation, Yang said that the gigantic tumor had made his life miserable. He could not even stand up but had to lie down all day long on his bed.
The long surgery involved a team of 9 doctors and took 16 hours, during which Yang received more than 5000ml of blood, which is more than the entire amount an adult’s body holds.
The patient is now recovering at a good pace and is hopeful that he will be discharged from the hospital soon.
