ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday said that the Pakistan Army would not be used for political purposes and to stop the Azadi march of PTI on August 14.
Talking to the media outside the Parliament House here, he said the government would withdraw Article 245 if any decision in this regard was taken by the Parliament.
The army would perform duty as per Constitution, he added.
The minister said Article 245 of the Constitution was imposed in view of expected law and order situation in the wake of military operation against terrorists in Waziristan.
The Pakistan Army was successfully rooting out terrorists from the tribal area, he added.
He said that the political issues would be solved through dialogue.
To a question, he refuted the impression that there was a rift between the government and the army.
The minister said the government had constituted a 33-member special parliamentary committee on election reforms. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Inasaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan should use the forum of committee for electoral reform rather than holding protests.
