LAHORE: The Punjab government will observe World Breast Feeding Week from August 25 to 30 by organizing awareness seminars at district headquarters to highlight the importance of breast feeding for the better health of infants and children.
Health Provincial Coordinator Lady Workers Programme (LHWs) Dr. Javed Umer told APP Sunday that during the seminars, lecturers would be delivered by experts to sensitize women about the importance of lactation.
Quoting experts on the field, he advised that breast feeding should be started immediately after birth and continued for six months during which no other food should be given to the child and after six months soft food could be started along with breast feeding.
He urged the nursing staff and lady health workers to convey the message door to door regarding the importance of breast feeding in the health of infant.
Training of LHWs would be completed in the field of nutrition, breast feeding and schedule of feeding to children, he said.
He hoped that Millinum Development Goals MDGs would be achieved by improving the health of mother and child by 2015.
