KARACHI:Cleaning of all rain drains and sewers in Karachi are being streamlined on emergency basis, under the Additional Commissioner (Two) of Karachi, Mohammad Aslam Khoso, so as to avert any flood like situation during current monsoons.
Keeping in view the weather forecast made by meteorological department vis a vis heavy rainfall in the metropolis and as per directives of Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Minister for Local Bodies, Sharjeel Inam Memon a contingency plan has already been prepared.
According to a senior official, cleaning of rain drains in all commercial and residential areas, particularly in old city area as well as congested localities, would be ensured on daily basis so that no inadequate disposal of waste may choke the lines and expose metropolis to any serious situation.
Meanwhile the Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has also appealed to the citizens to realize their responsibilities towards the city and assist the administration ensuring that all domestic garbage is adequately disposed off at identified sites only.
“I appeal you not to throw your garbage in drains, sewers or in front of your houses,” he said.
