ISLAMABAD:High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka on Thursday celebrated Independence Day with traditional fervor and a resolve to make Pakistan a strong and democratic Islamic welfare state.
High Commissioner, Maj Gen (R) Qasim Qureshi hoisted a national flag at a ceremony in Colombo where messages of President and Prime Minster were read out.
In his message on the occasion, the High Commissioner said Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy cordial and friendly ties as this exemplary relationship having depth, breadth and diversity serves as a beacon for other countries of South Asia.
He said exploring ways to broaden as well as deepen the economic ties, through enhancement of trade and bilateral investments, within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement, remains our top most priority.
Both the countries face significant challenges at the same time. This mutuality provides a wide canvas to help and support each other in order to jointly overcome challenges and maximize opportunities, the High Commissioner added.
Members of Pakistani community based in Sri Lanka, High Commission officials, dignitaries of Sri Lanka and media persons attended the ceremony.
