DI KHAN:Like other parts of the country the 68th Independence Day was observed here with national fervor and special prayers for prosperity, stability and peace of the country were offered.
Flag hoisting ceremony was held at Mufti Mehmood School where Commissioner Dera Muhammad Mushtaq Jadoon perform the flag hoisting ceremony and paid rich tribute to leaders of Pakistan movement.
He also paid tribute to officials of security forces who have embraced martyrdom in war against terrorism and said that their sacrifices would not go in vein.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dera visited Central Jail and distributed sweets among prisoners and share happiness on this Day.
The education department arranged a series of programmes at Islamia High School No 2 where students from different schools presented tableau, PT shows, national anthem and national songs and also highlight achievement of the forefathers for creating this separate homeland for the Muslims of the Sub-Continent in speech competition.
Besides, Gomal University marked the day with national zeal and held programme for students who highlight the importance of the day and paid rich tribute to leaders of Pakistan movement especially role of Quaid e Azam and Allam Mohammad Iqbal.
Vice Chancellor Major Gen(r) Hamid Shafiq addressed on the occasion,throwing light on several aspects of the Independence Day and sacrifices of the forefathers for the country.
A Cultural event was arranged at Haq Nawaz Park where different cultural shows including horse dance, local dance, wrestling and national songs enthralled the people.
The district administration put in place strict security measures on the occasion of Independence Day.
The streets and Bazaars were decorated with national flags while people also hoisted flags at roof of their houses.
People, especially the children were enthusiastically purchasing national flags, buntings, posters, stickers and celebrated the Independence Day with traditional enthusiasm.
Vendors set up stalls for the sale of national flags, banners, and picture of the national heroes who struggled day and night to achieve a common goal. The national flags hoisted at the important buildings were fluttering high in the air.
Traders union decorated shops with national flags and illuminated shops with lights and candles at night between August 13 and 14.
