KARACHI:Independence day programs began here Thursday morning with a flag hoisting ceremony at Mazar e Quaid with Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad, as the chief guest on the occasion.
The governor accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah and his cabinet members also laid floral wreaths at the grave of Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and his lieutenants buried on the premises.
Students from different schools of the city on the occasion recited national anthem in the accompaniment of military band.
Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui and other senior government officials alongwith a significant number of Karachiites attended the ceremony, amidst adequate security arrangements.
The students also presented popular national songs, including those eulogizing the sacrifices rendered by our soldiers for the defence of the country.
