The rupee-dollar parity rates moved cautiously on the currency market on Thursday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee shed two-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying at Rs 98.84 and the national currency fell by one-paisa for selling at Rs 98.85, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee did not show any change versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 98.70 and Rs 98.90 respectively, while it lost 35-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 131.65 and Rs 131.90, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the yen sagged against the dollar, coming under pressure on news Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) plans to increase its allocation to domestic equities. The dollar rose 0.3 percent to 102.40 yen, pulling away from a 1-1/2 week low near 101.76 yen set on Wednesday.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.44, the greenback was available at 3.2110 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.1596 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The dollar-rupee parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Lahore on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the greenback opened at Rs 98.85 (buying) and Rs 99.15 (selling) against Rs 98.80 and Rs 99.10 of Wednesday. The greenback lost its worth and was closed at Rs 98.80 and Rs 99.10 on buying and selling counters, respectively. However, some of the dealers quoted selling rate of the dollar as Rs 99.15.
Likewise, the British pound was purchased and sold at Rs 166.10 and Rs 166.80 against same overnight rates.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 98.50 (buying) and Rs 98.60 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 98.50 (buying) and Rs 98.60 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 165 (buying) and Rs 165.50 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
