KARACHI: Defending Champion Asjad Iqbal of Punjab will take on Fawad Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the opening match of 6th NBP Cup National Ranking Snooker Championship which break-off here at the NBP Sports Complex Billiards Hall from Wednesday.
Country’s top 38 cuemen divided in eight groups are taking part in the 9-day event carrying Rs.174, 000 in prize money.
Players are drawn in eight groups and top two after round robin league will advance in the 16 round.
Former IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif and last world championship semifinalist Muhammad Sajjad, national champion Muhammad Asif Toba, Hamza Akbar, Muhammad Bilal are strong contenders for the title.
“I am looking to reassert my supremacy on the domestic circuit,” Asif said, who had slipped to 7th in national ranking.
Sajjad, who finished runner-up in 2010 Asian championship, was also upbeat about the title.
Sajjad who with Asif won the IBSF World Team Snooker title in Ireland last year said he was in good mindset and rhythm to regain the title.
The event is important for trio of Asif, Sajjad and Asjad as they all are part of NBP sports department.
