KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that thousands of appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff were made against a few hundred vacancies two years ago, which are fake as legal requirements were not fulfilled.
He stated this while addressing a news conference at his office at the Sindh Assembly here on Thursday.
The minister said that these appointments included SLT, drawing and orientation teachers as well as non-teaching staff, said a handout issued here on Thursday.
This minister said that, to rectify this irregularity of the past and for the sake of merit, it has been decided that all the candidates will take NTS test when ban on recruitment will be lifted and those who would clear the test they will be retained.
He warned that the government would not be black mailed by any protests over its decision to scrutinise the appointments.
Nisar Khuhro said that all the recruitment will now be carried out on merit through National Testing Service (NTS).
He said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed that the Education Department should not be run in an unprofessional manner.
The minister informed that 12 former officers who were allegedly involved in fake appointments were suspended and till now they are not posted anywhere. He said that inquiry was under way to sack them, but they have taken stay order from courts.
He informed that AG Sindh raised objection over recruitment beyond approved vacancies, therefore, the salaries of such people were withheld.
Answering a question, he said that 13,000 appointments were made in Karachi against 1,500 teaching cadre vacancies, while 1,400 fake appointments were made in Hyderabad and 700 in other districts.
