ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Friday decided to visit new Islamabad Airport on October 13, for investigation and physical verification of work done by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The Committee took this decision after discussing the issue of construction of new Islamabad Airport in its meeting held here.
The meeting was attended by Syed Javed Ali Shah, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Sardar Muhammad Irfan Dogar, Parveen Masood Bhatti, Nighat Parveen Mir, Shahnaz Saleem, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, and Farhana Qamar MNAs.
The representative of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) briefed the Committee in detail.
The Committee also directed Managing Director, PIA to provide a detail and comprehensive report on the local and international loan was taken by the national flag carrier since 2006 to date.
The Committee was briefed by the Secretary, Civil Aviation Authority regarding security issues of Airports in detail.
The Committee inquired that how Karachi Airport incident occurred instead of intelligence sharing by Ministry of Interior.
It was informed that specific intelligence report was not shared with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Airport Security Force (ASF) played its role effectively to secure the installation at airport and many ASF’s soldiers were killed.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Shaikh Aftab Ahmed stated that it is responsibility of Police and Rangers to obstruct terrorist outside the Airport, who attacked on Airport, so Sindh Police, Rangers and other Security Agencies may be asked and responsibility should be fixed. The Committee appreciated the scarification of ASF martyrs.
The Committee also taken the issue of flight delaying incident occurred on September 15, 2014.
It was informed that flight was initially delayed for one and half hours as a repercussion of late arrival of incoming aircraft ex-PK-369 and due to technical fault.
It incurred further delay of 25 minutes due to late arrival of two parliamentarians Ramesh Kumar and Rehman Malik.
Incident was inquired and disciplinary action against the responsible was taken promptly.
Nadeem Abro, Shift Station Manager and Shahzad Ali, Terminal Manger have been suspended from duties with immediate effect.
Further action will be taken against the passengers who were involved in agitation/misbehavior with parliamentarians.
