ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Major General Muhammad Saeed Aleem Monday advised the people residing along the Chenab river to follow flood alerts, sounded from time-to-time by respective local administrations, to minimize loses.
Talking to a private television, he said the inhabitants must take the flood warnings seriously and take refuge at safer places especially from where the high flood tide has yet to pass.
“I request the people not to take the warnings light, follow them and leave their houses before time to protect precious lives and valuables,” he said.
Presently, he said, a high flood wave was passing through the River Chenab, adding that the water level has started receding in Chinniot and Qadirabad areas.
Although, the Chairman said, water level was decreasing at some points but a full-fledged rescue and relief operation would continue there.
He said rescue teams of Pakistan Army and Punjab government were utilizing all available resources to shift the marooned people at safer places, adding that boats and helicopters of the Army were busy day and night to evacuate the flood affected people stranded in inundated houses.
