ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has stated that Pakistan, which is blessed with rich natural as well as man-made cultural treasures, offers huge variety and diversity to the tourists across the world.
“From the relics of ancient civilizations to the exquisite cultural and historical treasures and from the lush-green fertile plains to awe-inspiring snow-covered hill peaks and mountain ranges, our country offers huge variety and diversity to the tourists across the world,” the President said in his message on the World Tourism Day being observed on Saturday (September 27).
“Our people are known for their hospitality and friendliness. We consider tourism as an effective tool to project and promote true image of our beloved homeland,” he added.
The President said he was pleased to learn that Pakistan was joining the international community in celebrating the World Tourism Day.
“The observance of this day not only signifies the importance of this sector as a key revenue generating sector but also underscores its role towards bringing the people of different parts of the world further closer, promoting greater understanding and appreciation of various cultures, reinforcing the most cherished values of tolerance, respect, mutual co-existence and serving as a vehicle for socio-economic change,” he added.
The President said besides providing an opportunity to explore natural as well as man-made beauties and wonders of this world, tourism plays a critical role towards community development.
By promoting social interaction and further strengthening social cohesion and human bonds, tourism was one of the effective instruments for promoting and adopting positive changes, he added.
The President said the theme for this year “Tourism and Community Development” would certainly fortify the role of this sector towards overall positive development and would provide impetus to efforts aimed at greater involvement of the people in this sector.
He noted with satisfaction that provincial governments in Pakistan were mindful of the need to further promote this sector and efforts were afoot to strengthen this critical sector of the economy.
“I am confident that the observance of this day would further motivate our provincial governments and our people especially the private sector to make even greater investments in this crucial sector,” he added.
The President also called upon the concerned departments to ensure maximum involvement of the local communities towards projection and promotion of tourism, on one hand, and addressing certain concerns associated with this sector, on the other.
He also commended the efforts of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation for the promotion of tourism in the country.
