HYDERABAD: On the directives of Sindh Chief Minister,a special team of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh headed by its Director General Syed Salman Shah has established a camp office at Sukkur and finalised all preparations to meet any eventuality during expected flood.
A spokesman of PDMA Sindh informed here on Thursday that six thousand tents have been dispatched to concerned authorities of six districts including Sukkur, Larkana, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore and Khairpur while two boats each have also been handed over to the concerned authorities of Ghotki, Kashmore, Larkana and Shikarpur so that prompt relief could be provided to the residents in case of emergency.
Besides, the teams also started issuing warning to around one million residents of the river bed with direction to move to safer places, the spokesman said and added that the Deputy Commissioners of Sukkur, Larkana, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur and Khairpur have been advised to shift the people from sensitive areas to safer places and also establish relief camps for them.
Despite finalising all arrangements in Larkana and Sukkur Divisions,the PDMA spokesman informed that special team of the authority will remain stayed at Camp Office Sukkur and perform round the clock duties till the passage of flood peak.
He informed that the flood peak will hit Gudu Barrage between September 15 to 16, 2014 and the provincial government has enough time to shift the residents of river bed to safer places.
