KARACHI: Former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has asked the provincial government, all the ministers and other party lawmakers to be watchful of possible flood situation in Sindh province.
He directed all the ministers and other assembly members to pay urgent visits to the areas which may be hit by floods and submit a complete report about the situation by Monday evening, said a handout issued here.
Asif Zardari issued this directive during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the Bilawal House, here on Sunday.
The former president discussed in detail risks from possible floods in the province. He warned that no dereliction in discharge of duty will be tolerated in tackling floods.
It was decided that the leave of all the staff of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), DCOs and their sub-ordinate staff are immediately cancelled and they are directed to reach their respective work places.
PDMA and all departments were also ordered to remain alert to cope with any flood emergency.
The former president asked ministers and other responsible persons to immediately reach low lying areas and inspect nullahs and embankments, and send report about it to him by Monday.
The Sindh Chief Minister apprised the PPP co-chairman of the steps taken by the provincial government so far to cope with any flood situation.
He was informed that a couple of days ago an emergency has been declared across the province and leave of officers and staff have been cancelled.
Asif Zardari directed the Sindh Chief Minister to utilize all available resources to handle any situation which may arise from floods.
He said that constant contact should be established through video link between PDMA and all relevant officers and institutions.
Asif Zardari said that he will personally monitor the entire situation at a monitoring cell at Bilawal House.
He stressed that all possible steps should be taken to protect life and property of the masses.
