KARACHI: Around 0.35 million children, under 5 years of age, were administered oral polio vaccine along with vitamin A capsule in district Central of Karachi during the three-day National Immunization Days (NIDs) campaign that concluded in three districts of the city on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner, Karachi – Central, Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman, sharing details of the campaign with the media said it was successfully conducted in 42 Union Councils, (UCs) covering 3,37,842 children against polio virus.
Two hundred and forty five teams of polio workers, he said, covered 69,130 children in Gulberg sub division, followed by 1,18,767 children vaccinated by 343 teams in North Karachi, 82,755 by 305 teams in Liaquatabad and 67,190 children covered by 265 teams in North Nazimabad.
The Deputy Commissioner of Karachi – Central said these children were administered polio drops and as many as 1158 polio teams with the help of 270 area in-charges in total took part in the campaign.
Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman in reply to a question said that there were few refusals but they were also convinced and covered with the cooperation of police and health department.
He particularly appreciated parents for making this a successful campaign in the district adding that eradication of polio virus was a national cause and every citizen should play its role to protect children against the crippling disease.
