KARACHI: Afzal Zaidi the Administrator, District Municipal Corporation, South, Karachi on Tuesday declared rain emergency in the district and canceled leave previously granted to its officials and staffers.
Sharing details of the emergency measures adopted by the DMC -South with the media, he said the emergency has been declared on basis of possibility that cyclone Nilofer may partially hit the city and also cause storm and heavy rain fall.
“In the given situation steps have also been taken to remove bill boards considered to be of any risk for passers-by and moving vehicles on thoroughfares and side lanes,” he said.
Moreover, an emergency center has been set-up at its central office located on Rafiqui Shaheed Road, near Haqqani Chowk.
This emergency center, he said would remain operational round the clock to attend public complaint about any possible drainage problem.
“Complaints can be registered via phone numbers 99211390 and 99211429,” said the DMC- South administrator.
He also mentioned that sanitary and sewerage staff along with staffers associated with parks department, building and roads, mechanical and electrical departments would remain on duty, in three shifts round the clock.
Afzal Zaidi said steps have been taken to ensure presence of the staff and that no complacency would be tolerated by any official and staffer.
On the occasion Municipal Commissioner, Muhammad Raisi said special instructions have been given as how to keep gadgets in working order when operational in low lying areas and urgent removal of trees, bill boards that may fall due to storms and heavy showers.
