KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in a joint operation along with district municipal corporations removed over 1.2 million offal’s of sacrificial animals from different areas of the city during three days of Eid-ul-Azha.
Later, the offal’s were buried in trenches under scientific basis, said a statement issued by KMC on Wednesday.
The city was divided into 18 zones for speedy lifting and disposal of offal.
Over 20 thousand workers took part in this operation with the help of over five thousand small and big vehicles and machinery.
Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan along with the Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, KMC Administrator Rauf Akhter Farooqui and district municipal officers visited various areas to check the sanitation condition.
On the visit of main offal collection point at China Ground of Kashmir Road he said the overall condition with regard to offal removal was better which was the result of strong coordination among municipal organizations.
He also appreciated the setting up of complaints centers at district level and appointment of focal persons which he said helped the citizens in the registration of their complaints.
Meanwhile, Rauf Akhter Farooqui visited different city areas on the second and third day of Eid and reviewed the offal removal work.
On this occasion he praised the performance of municipal officials who he said worked hard for lifting and disposal of millions of offal on timely basis.
He said this operation will continue on fourth day of Eid also to ensure full and complete cleaning of whole city.
The Administrator also instructed the senior director municipal services to personally visit the areas around the city air bases and airport and ensure removal of all offal so that the air traffic could be saved from any trouble due to the flying birds.
The Municipal Services Department of KMC also performed fumigation in all three days of Eid and washed the combined sacrificial points with the help of fire tenders.
The sanitation staff also removed the garbage and other waste during this operation and sprinkled slacked lime on all sacrificial places in the city.
On the directive of KMC Administrator the senior director of Municipal Services Masood Alam visited the Mauripur Truck Stand where the municipal staff removed the accumulated water due to overflowing of nullah.
The fire brigade of KMC also put off fire erupted in a textile warehouse of Gulshan-e-Maymar on the second day of Eid.
