ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has acquired two latest technology fuel efficient Boeing 737-800 aircraft on wet lease from Turkish based Corondon Airlines.
Both the aircraft have arrived at Jinnah International Airport Karachi, according to a spokesman of PIA here.
These aircraft are being put into operation immediately and to be deployed on domestic and international routes.
He said that PIA plans to induct more fuel efficient aircraft in its fleet which will add in achieving higher revenue for the airline, provide better services to customers and improve flight schedule for the convenience of its valued passengers.
He said all legal formalities including PPRA rules were fulfilled in acquisition of these aircraft.
In July and August, the national flag carrier received delivery of A320 aircraft on dry lease.
He said that with the induction of these latest technology fuel efficient aircraft, the airline will be in a better position to offers services to its passengers and at the same time will benefit PIA in terms of fuel savings which is a major cost factor for the airline.
“We will be able to restore our flights frequencies and introduce new destinations for the convenience of our passengers,” he added.
As part of Revival of PIA programme the national flag carrier is in the process of acquiring fuel efficient aircraft on priority and has floated tenders accordingly.
