Firmness prevailed on the currency market on Thursday as the rupee moved slightly against the dollar in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee maintained its rising trend versus the dollar, gaining further four-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 102.55 and Rs 102.57 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee sustained overnight levels in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.20 and Rs 102.40 respectively. The rupee, however, lost 50-paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 128.50 and Rs 128.75 respectively, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the safe-haven yen held its gains against the dollar on Thursday after weak manufacturing surveys from around the globe triggered a run on risk. The euro, meanwhile, staged a modest rebound ahead of a policy review by the European Central Bank as investors took profits on the dollar’s recent gains. The dollar index dropped about 0.4 percent to 85.630, pulling away from a four-year high of 86.218 touched on Tuesday. The index has marked 11 straight weekly gains.
The dollar was available against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.61, the greenback was at 3.2550 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was trading at 6.1395 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The national currency showed stability and stayed unchanged against the major currencies including US dollar and British pound on the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar commenced trading at its overnight closing of Rs 102.15 and Rs 102.40 on buying and selling side, respectively. The dollar witnessed marginal change in its rate during the day’s trading but finally closed at the opening level, the dealers said.
Likewise, the rupee remained unchanged against the pound sterling that was traded at its Wednesday closing of Rs 166.25 and Rs 166.50 on buying and selling counters, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101 (buying) and Rs 101.10 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101 (buying) and Rs 101.10 (selling) against.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 168 (buying) and Rs 168.10 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 168 (buying) and Rs 168.10 (selling).
