SUKKUR: At least 56 persons including women and children were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between a passenger coach and a trailer near Thehri Bypass in Khairpur early Tuesday morning.
Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Khairpur Ghulam Jafar Soomro confirmed 56 dead.
According to SP Motorways Sukkur Zone Faisal Abdullah Chachar the bus was going to Karachi when it met the accident. The bus was completely destroyed. He said the accident occurred when the driver of the overspeeding coach which was going from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province’s Swat district to Karachi tried to overtake another vehicle resulting in a head-on collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The coach overturned after hitting the truck.
Emergency and Rescue teams reached the site and shifted the victims to Civil Hospital Khairpur.
An emergency was declared in all hospitals of Khairpur district whereas the condition of five of the wounded was reported as critical.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and PML(F) Sindh President Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi has expressed condolence over the death of passengers in the accident and directed the Deputy Commissioner to provide proper treatment to accident victims.
